Luis Sansans Arnanz es un cinefotógrafo nacido en Madrid, España y establecido en la Ciudad de México.
Desde muy joven inició su trayectoria de manera autodidacta trabajando como staff de iluminación en una compañía de renta de equipo donde trabajaba su padre, Luis Sansans (El Tio). Mas adelante entro a trabajar como trainee en Panavisión aprendiendo mecánica de cámaras y posteriormente se desarrolló como asistente de cámara en diversos proyectos como Master and Commander: The far Side of the World (Peter Weir), Romeo & Juliet (Baz Luhrmann) , Y tu Mama También (Alfonso Cuarón). En Los Angeles se especializo en el uso del Steadicam y poco a poco empezó a trabajar como operador en películas como Legend of Zorro (Martin Campbell), Man on Fire (Tony Scott), Elysium (Neil Blomkamp), Spectre (Sam Mendes) por mencionar solo algunas.
Como cinefotógrafo participo en varios cortometrajes que tuvieron participación en diversos festivales internacionales y su primer largometraje fue Conejo en la Luna (México), dirigido por Jorge Ramirez Suarez y que estuvo dentro del marco del Festival de cine de Berlin en 2005.
Ha recibido varios premios y reconocimientos a lo largo de su trayectoria incluyendo el Ariel a Mejor Fotografía por la película Dias de Gracia (México), dirigida por Everardo Gout la cual tuvo su estreno en el Festival de Cannes en 2011. En el Rome Film Festival recibió el AIC/Imago award de mejor fotografía por la película Escobar: Paradise Lost (Francia-EU) dirigida por Andrea Di Stéfano (2013).
Su filmografía incluye películas como The Forever Purge (US), dirigido por Everardo Gout y producida por Blumhouse (2021), The Belko Experiment (US) dirigida por Greg McLean y escrita por James Gunn (2016), Texas Rising (US) dirigida por Roland Joffé (2015, 2da Unidad), Captive (US-México) protagonizada por Kate Mara y David Oyelowo (2015), Carnaval de Sodoma (México) dirigida por Arturo Ripstein (2006), entre otras.
Luis también a colaborado en series de Televisión como El Elegido, (México) una adaptación del comic American Jesus de Mark Millar (Netflix, 2023) Snowfall, (US) una de las series mas importantes de FX/Disney (2023-24), la mundialmente aclamada serie de Netflix Narcos, (US-Colombia-México, 2015-21) las series documentales para History Channel (US) Grant (2019), Lincoln (2022), y The Great War (2024).
Actualmente se encuentra en el proceso de Post-Producción de la serie
The Gringo Hunters (México-US) producida por Imagine para Netflix (2026)
desarrollando varios proyectos de largometrajes para 2025.
LUIS SANSANS ARNANZ is an award winning cinematographer born in Madrid, Spain, based in Mexico City, with almost two decades of filmmaking experience.
He started working as an AC on such films as Y tu mamá también (And Your Mother too), with the Academy Award Winning director, Alfonso Cuaron and Master and Commander for director Peter Weir to mention but a few.
He soon moved onto steadicam and camera operator on films like: Man on Fire, from director Tony Scott, Resident Evil:
Extinction, in the Bond franchise, Spectre with DP Hoyte Van Hoytema and Before Night Falls under the helm of director Julian Schnabel, among others.
As a cinematographer, he has over 20 credits under his belt. Some of these films are: Dias de Gracia (Days of Grace) directed by Everardo
Gout won 8 Arieles (Mexican Academy Award), including Best Cinematography, Escobar: Paradise Lost with Benicio Del Toro and
directed by Andrea Di Stefano with which Luis won the AIC/IMAGO Award (Associazione Italiana AUTORI della Fotografia
CINEMATOGRAFICA) at the Rome Film Festival, Blumhouse’s The Forever Purge franchise directed by Everardo Gout, Captive with
David Oyelowo and Kate Mara shot in Mexico and the USA, The Belko Experiment directed by Greg McLean, Carnaval de Sodoma directed by Arturo Ripstein and Conejo en la luna (Rabbit on the Moon), shot in England and directed by Jorge Ramírez Suárez among others.
His talents span over to the television world. He participated on the Netflix series: Narcos, seasons 2, 3 & Narcos Mexico, seasons 1, 2
with Wagner Moura, Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna.
Work was the TV series Aquí en La Tierra (Here on Earth) for FOX Studios done by Gael Garcia Bernal as creator/director, among
others. This production will participate in Cannesseries’ main competition, of its new TV series festival during April of 2018.
Luis also participated in tv show SNOWFALL Season 5 & 6 for Disney/ FX, a Mark Millar’s AMERICAN JESUS comic adaptation directed by Everardo Gout (The Chosen One) Netflix and History Channel documentary series Grant (2019), Lincoln (2022), The Great War (2024).
